The Walrus Magazine Cover
Illustration, Editorial
The objective of this project is to create an editorial illustration based off a current news article for a magazine cover The Walrus.
This design is based on the article “30 years under longest boil-water advisory in Canada, Neskantaga First Nation pushes for new treatment plant” by Sarah Law. Using a visual metaphor of a corporate entity wringing a plastic water bottle dry, this design represents Canada's lack of action and the exhaustion of Indigenous peoples.

Process
This project started with researching different articles and chosing one that was both relevant and recent.
Once the article was chosen, thumbnails and roughs were created, exploring different ways to represent the article. Then a rough composition was created.

Final Design
The final product features an impactful design that emphasizes the main concepts of the article using a visual metaphor.
Using texture and desaturated colours, this illustration creates a serious look, emphasizing the magnitude of the situation.
